Job Opening Announcement (Tenured or Fixed Term Faculty Position in Management Studies)(PDP Education Centre)

Explanation of institution The PDP Education Centre in Musashi University, Tokyo, Japan invites applications for a position with tenure or without tenure, depending on research achievements and teaching performance, beginning September 1, 2020 or April 1, 2021 (negotiable). The PDP Education Centre plans and governs the parallel degree programme (PDP) between the University of London (UoL) and Musashi University, in which students seek dual degrees from UoL and Musashi university. The position requires an individual to teach undergraduate courses in English including Business and Management in a Global Context. Candidates from all fields of management will be considered and those with teaching experience and a good research record/potential are highly encouraged to apply. Musashi University is planning to launch a new school, the International School of Liberal Arts and Sciences [provisional name], beginning April 2022, and the successful candidate is expected to be transferred to the economics and management program of the new school.

Job details Teaching, research and administrative responsibilities:

- Teaching: The candidate is responsible for teaching courses worth 20 course credits per year (5 undergraduate classes per week), including the following University of London (UoL) BSc in Economics and Management course units:
  - Business and Management in a Global Context (MN1178) - (6 course credits)

- Research: Candidates should be able to conduct research on their initiative. The university provides research facilities such as office space and library access, as well as a generous research fund (JPY 400,000 per year).

- Service: The successful candidate is expected to contribute enthusiastically to the provision of services related to the UoL/Musashi PDP. Some participation in university-wide general administration and program development activities is also required of full-time faculty members.

Employment status Full-time
Period of Employment The position is open in rank (professor (with tenure), associate professor (with tenure), assistant professor (with tenure) and assistant professor (without tenure)) depending on research achievements and teaching performance. If the appointment is without tenure, it is for a fixed term of three years but may be renewed for a further one or two years. There is a degree of flexibility regarding the starting date: while candidates are expected to be available to work full-time from April 1, 2021, an earlier (September 2020) or later (September 2021) starting date could be negotiated.

Research field Management
Qualifications [1] Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. program (including those who expect to finish by March 2021) or have research accomplishment equivalent to Ph.D. degree holders. 
[2] Applicants must have a command of English sufficient to teach undergraduate courses in English. While we do not require candidates to have Japanese language skills, intercultural communicative competence necessary to carry out their responsibilities effectively in a Japanese university environment is necessary.
Compensation Salary and benefits will be determined according to Musashi University guidelines.

Selection process Selection procedure: Review of application materials followed by a panel interview (short-listed candidates only). Details of subsequent stages of the approval process will be explained to candidates who are successful at the interview stage.
 
Short-listed candidates will be notified of the interview schedule as early as possible.
For interviewees residing in Japan, the university will provide domestic travel expenses to cover the cost of attending a scheduled interview. For those residing abroad, the university will provide travel and accommodation expenses to cover the costs of attending a scheduled interview. The amount will be determined according to the university guidelines.
 
Selection result The successful candidate will be informed in writing once a decision has been made.
